READING ASSIGNMENT 1

Make sure to work through all examples without looking at the solutions
first. When you have a solution, check it against that of the book. This
is a good way to learn.
Also, as indicated on the syllabus, book examples might end up being
exam questions. 


Chapter 1
  * ignore the discussion of ``fields" in section 1.2, pp. 2-3. 
      Pay attention to sigma-fields only
  * omit section 1.6
  * make sure to work through these examples, and please tell me of
      any problems. If enough of you have troubles with the same examples
      I will cover them in class.

Chapter 2
  * omit section 2.2
  * omit section 2.6



All I want from you for this reading assignment is 2 thoughful 
questions per chapter. This will help me determine what most
of you have difficulty with.
