Due: Fri Feb 15 at 5:00pm. Weight: 10% (of final project grade)

You should form teams of size 1-2 for the course project. The course project should be about an area of statistical machine learning; your focus should be on theory; you are not required to do research, but pick a topic of interest, read the relevant literature and summarize the results. The write up for this milestone should tell us what you are planning to do for the project. Your write up should include the project title and andrew IDs of the team members, and it should include:

• A good introduction and overview of background material, typically covering 2-4 peer-reviewed papers.
• A description of why the problem you chose to study is interesting/important/challenging.
• A clear statement of what you wish to accomplish by the second milestone and by the end of the project, and a list of the papers you plan to read.

The report should be limited to 2 pages, excluding references, and should be in NIPS 2016 style.
