Subject: Post-Graduation Statistics Survey for 36-303 (Survey, Sampling, and Society) From: erika tang Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2011 17:13:13 -0500 To: Farouk Dey CC: David Zimmerman , Je Woo Sun , Zhiyi Tang , brian@stat.cmu.edu Dear Mr. Dey, Thank you so much for your time this afternoon. As you know, my group and I in 36-303 (Survey, Sampling, and Society) hope to conduct research concerning the pursuits of undergraduates of CMU once they have left the university. To do so, we would need access to data published by the Career Center such as that about last year's graduating class at http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/career/students_alumni/post-grad-survey/index.html. We hope to take a random sample of five years ranging from 2001 to the present in order to obtain data that is free from the job market fluctuations of any individual year; we have already taken this random sample and have decided to use the data from 2001, 2008, 2004, 2007, and 2010. Each member of the group has completed the CITI course on the ethical treatment of survey subjects and the proper protocol when conducting a survey. We are also in the process of submitting an IRB form to our professor, Professor Brian Junker (brian@stat.cmu.edu) Could you give us access to this data? We were hoping that the data is formatted similarly to the results shown on-line for the 2010 graduating class. However, if this is not so, it would be extremely helpful if the data were organized by each individual and if each individual were denoted by major. Thank you so much for your help and time. -- Sincerely, Erika Tang
